The Israelites lived in Egypt, and the new Pharaoh was afraid of them. He made a cruel rule against Hebrew baby boys.
One Hebrew mother hid her baby son for three months. When she couldn't hide him any longer, she put him in a basket coated with tar and set it among the reeds of the Nile. His sister watched from a distance.
Pharaoh's daughter came to the river, found the basket and felt sorry for the crying baby. His sister bravely asked if she should find a Hebrew woman to nurse him, and she fetched the baby's own mother! The princess named him Moses, because she drew him out of the water.
God protected baby Moses through brave people: his mother, his sister and even Pharaoh's daughter. God had big plans for Moses. God sees and cares for little ones.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
